Soleri. an Italian architect planner, lives near Phoenix, Arizona. Some 70 miles away, in the grassland belt 100 miles from the Grand Canyon, he is constructing what he calls an Arcology ' - a new type of town. His theoretical ideas were expressed in a recent book: Arcology: The City in the Image of Man; they are also represented photographically in the current Arts Council exhibition, ' How to Play the Environment Game ' at the Hayward Gallery in London.
