Makoto Moroi was born in Tokyo in 1930; his Partita for flute was written in 1952. Alberto Ginastera was born in 1916 in Buenos Aires, where he now holds the chair of composition at the Conservatory; his Piano Sonata was first performed at the Contemporary Music Festival in Pittsburg in 1952. Paul Ben-Haim, born in 1897, went from southern Germany to Israel, where his Violin Sonata was written in 1951; it is dedicated to Yehudi Menuhin.
