On 1 January, 28 adults and 8 children were cast adrift on the remote Scottish island of Taransay-the start of a year-long experiment to find out what happens when a cross-section of British people create a new society. This four-part series follows the process by which the 36 castaways were selected from 4,000 initial applicants.
