Sixty years ago next Tuesday, the city of Coventry suffered over ten hours of bombing by the German Luftwaffe. Much of the city, including the medieval cathedral of St Michael's, was destroyed and a new phase in the air war began. Charles Wheeler tells the story of the Coventry BI itz, with the help of historian Norman Longmate and survivors of that night, including factory workers Jim Woolley and Eddie Bell, school children Doreen Jacobs, Maurice Rattigan and Michael Logan, and Luftwaffe bomber pilot Gerhard Baeker.
