adapted for radio by FREDERICK BRADNUM from Recollections of Guy de Maupassant by FRANCOIS TASSART with Michael Elphick
In 1891, at the age of 41, Guy de Maupassant was world-famous for his short stories and his novels, the owner of several houses and yachts, an obsessive womaniser and seemingly of robust health. Yet he was increasingly the victim of mental disorders caused by syphilis, and two years later he was dead. His descent into insanity was witnessed by his valet Francois.
