2.40; 3.10 International Athletics from Cosford: England v USA
The first appearance of a USA men's team at Cosford should provide a sparkling afternoon's athletics - American indoor specialists are among the best in the world. Today's highlights are the mile, 600m, and 4 x 400m relay. Organised by the AAA in association with Philips Electronics.
Commentators RON PICKERING and STUART STOREY who writes:
"The last time the US national side competed indoors in Britain was in 1965 at Wembley - and they won quite comfortably. The American men have had a world-record-breaking season so far indoors and the team will be strong, even if some top personalities decide not to compete.
It's very difficult to see how an England team can beat the USA but some personal gains by British athletes can be anticipated. Harry King in the 60m is unbeaten at Cosford this year. He's beaten East Germans in East Germany and is close to Wells' British Indoor 60m record.
Mark Holton has recently broken the British Indoor Hurdles record too and the American hurdlers, who top the world rankings, will certainly provide the strongest possible competition and could push him to an even better time."
