Leonard Slatkin joined the National Symphony Orchestra in 1996, he spent 27 fruitful years with the St Louis
Symphony Orchestra, helping them to establish a reputation as one of America's finest and most distinctive orchestras. He talks to Joan
Bakewell about his time at St Louis and about his achievements there, with music by Brahms and Mahler.
