The Diary of Dawid Rubinowicz

on BBC Radio 3

Translated and abridged by Derek Bowman
The diary was begun when Dawid was 12 and consists of five exercise books. He and his family lived at Krajno, in a remote region of Poland, where his father owned a small dairy. Dawid kept his diary from March 1940, by which time the Germans had already invaded Poland. It was not discovered until 1960 and was published in Warsaw the same year.
