On 6 May 1882, at 7.0 in the evening, in Dublin's largest park. there occurred one of the most savage political murders in British history.
The newly appointed Chief Secretary for Ireland, Lord Frederick Cavendish , and the Under-Secretary, Thomas Henry Burke, were stabbed repeatedly by a band of assassins who called themselves the Invincibles.
