The Medici Wedding Festivities of 1539

on BBC Radio 3

Cusimo I married Kleonora of Toledo in 1539, and the celebrations were on the most extravagant scale. The music survives for the reception of the Duke and Duchess at the city gate, for the entertainment at the wedding breakfast in the Medici Palace, and for the Intcrmedii to a comedy which was performed there the following day.
Leo McKern reads from the published account by Pier-francesco Giambullari, which gave every detail of setting, costume and instrumentation. Music by Francesco Corteccia, Festa. Rampolini, Masaconi and Moschini
