Yesterday afternoon, in the delightful setting of Cirencester Park in Gloucestershire, the long season for Britain's eventing enthusiasts came to a significant climax. Having qualified for these Championships at regional events and come unscathed through the problems of Badminton, Burghley and Kiev, they were required to negotiate a 28-fence spectacular cross-country course over 21 miles.
