by NIKOLAI ORLOFF
FEW artists of the present day give such an impression of quiet, confident strength as Nikolai Orloff. His playing ranges from giant force to the most subtle shades of delicacy in the very way that his resolute and yet sensitive personality suggests. The programme ho has chosen shows his art in many such varying aspects.
A pupil of the Moscow Conservatoire in its great days, he won its gold medal at the ago of eighteen—the chief prize open to Russian students ; three years later, he was himself a professor there, having leave, however, to play in concerts throughout Russia, including one before the late Czar. Since 1922, when he left his own country, ho has played in most parts of Europe and America, winning friends and admirers everywhere.
