Tobacco taxes pay for nearly half the cost of the National Health Service. Old evidence and new evidence proves beyond all doubt that smoking not only causes lung cancer and coronary thrombosis but also costs the country ten times as many man-hours annually as strikes.
Should we ban cigarette advertising altogether, forbid smoking in public buildings, place warnings on cigarette packages, treat cigarettes as a dangerous drug? Where do we go from here?
