For Canadians 1984 has been a year of reminiscence, with memories galore as the population celebrated a whole series of anniversaries.
It's 450 years since the French explorer Jacques Cartier discovered the St Lawrence river, 200 years since the thousands of British 'loyalists' fled north to settle there after the American War of Independence, 150 years since the city of Toronto was founded. In the first part of their Canadian tour HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh have been attending some of the celebrations to mark these significant dates in Canada's past. Reporter Kate Adie
