Donald Macleod continues his exploration of the life and work of Georges Bizet.
4: The Commune of Paris and Montmartre
On 28 May 1871 after a week of carnage in the streets, the days of the Commune came to an end with the reading of Marshall McMahon's proclamation to the people of Paris. Today Donald Macleod visits the Mur des Fédérés, which commemorates the 147 Communards who were lined up and shot by firing squad, and Bizet's house, situated at the foot of Montmartre.
