Ernest W. Goss, conductor of the Torquay Municipal Orchestra, planned originally to be an organist and a choirmaster. Studying to this end, he passed the examinations of Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, and Associate of the Royal College of Music. He has had considerable experience as an accompanist, orchestral player, and choirmaster.
Goss served during the war as Bandmaster with the Northumberland Fusiliers and York and Leicester Regiments, and soon after leaving the Army was appointed Musical Director to the Corporation of Torquay. As such he has seen the Orchestra grow from the small numbers of that time to its present substantial strength. He has re-established the Torquay Musical Festival at which leading artists and famous conductors appear.
