REMINISCENCES of AN INDIAN ARMY CONCERT PARTY

on 2LO London

(Picture on page. 182.)
The North-West frontier of India is one of the wildest and most rugged districts in which a British soldier can be stationed, and concert parties there are as welcome as manna in the desert. Many who served on the Frontier during the Afghan trouble after the Armistice will remember that these concert-parties toured the camps, facing every sort of difficulty, from stray snipers to mountain winds that blew away the backcloth ; hauling their piano up cliffs, lighting their fit-up stage with armoured car headlights or with 'buttis,' and generally sparing no pains to organize a cheery show. Mr. Ewart Seott, of the Meerut Division, was the organizer of one of these parties, 'The Jade Jesters,' which penetrated as far north as Landi Kotal; and with his aid, and that of one or two other members of the original Frontier Concert Parties, an attempt will be made tonight to recapture something of the atmosphere of those al fresco shows under Eastern skies.
