(1632-87). It was Jean-Baptiste Lully 's abilities as a dancerthat brought him to the attention of Louis XIV. When the king saw Lully perform on the dance floor at court he was so impressed that he immediately commandeered Lully's services. Lullywas appointed composer of instrumental music to the king and began his dramatic rise to fame and fortune. Donald Macleod charts Lully's life story and introduces the works that made his name.
