AN ordinary middle-class couple are about to pass an hour after dinner in their usual comfortable, unexciting manner, when a letter from a recently-married daughter starts a conversation. Discussing the years they have passed together, they make the startling discovery that eomfortable, acquiescence in each other's presence and personality has very nearly ousted the love with which they began their married lives ; and that, but for a joking phrase in their daughter's letter, love might have died for ever .
