A look ahead to some of the programmes to be seen in the new season on BBC 1.
Among the promised drama highlights are David Jason in a wartime robbery caper, Dawn French's debut in a serious role, Billy Connolly as a Glaswegian villain, and Alec Guinness , Lauren Bacall , Jeanne Moreau and Leo McKern in a nostalgic comedy. Ian Richardson returns in a sequel to House of Cards, while Michael Elphick stars as ex-Fleet Street hack Harry. The new documentary series include Thatcher: the Downing Street Years, and David Attenborough uncovers the secrets of Antarctica. Richard
Briers and Nicholas Lyndhurst appear in new comedy series, and many old favourites return. Also in the line-up is a new late-night chat show hosted by Danny Baker.
