Royal Family

on BBC One London

A special New Year's Day showing of the celebrated film by Richard Cawston
When this film was first shown on BBC1 in June 1969 it made television history by presenting a unique picture of a year in the life of The Queen and her family. Since then it has been seen by record audiences throughout the world. To people everywhere it came as a revelation of what the Royal Family are really like and of the unseen part of their job. We are showing today the original full-length version of the film for the benefit of viewers who would like to see it again, or for those who would now like to see it in colour, or for children who may have been unable to see it.
