Choirworks: Golgotha

on BBC Radio 3

Paul Guinery introduces the rarely performed oratorio of Christ's Passion by the Swiss composer Frank Martin. The largest of his biblical settings and the third of his five oratorios, the work relates the events of Passion Week from Palm Sunday to the Crucifixion in seven pictures, which are interleaved with contemplative settings of meditations by St Augustine.

Kathleen Cassello (soprano), Alexandra Papadjiakou (mezzo), Daniel Galvez-Vallejo (tenor), Guy Fletcher (tenor), Gilles Cachemaille (baritone), Christophe Fel (bass), Felix Friedrich (organ), MDR Choir and Orchestra, conductor Marcello Viotti
