Widnes fWigan
Live coverage of the whole Silk Cut Challenge Cup final from
Wembley (kick-off at 2.30pm). Wigan, masters of Wembley, are aiming to collect a record sixth successive Challenge cup to give coach John Monie the perfect sendoff before he returns to work in Australia.
But most observers feel that the one team which can challenge their superiority at Wembley are local rivals
Widnes. Wigan have played 30
Challenge Cup matches without defeat and Great Britain half-back Shaun Edwards has featured in all of them. He will again be a key figure in the launch of Wigan's most exciting backs, including winger Martin Offiah and captain Dean Bell. And Widnes have great players of their own in Welsh star Jonathan Davies and ex-Wigan scrum-half Bobby Goulding , both of whom had major parts in Widnes's crushing semi-final win over Leeds. Phil Larder takes the team to Wembley in his first season as coach of Widnes, and it is the club's first appearance in the final since their 19-6 win over Wigan in 1984. With commentary by Ray
French and Ross Strudwick.
