Thinking his friend Jim might have been drowned, Huck, tired, wet and hungry, staggered to a stately Southern mansion. The Grangerfords took him in but suspected he was really a Shepherdson, a family with whom they are feuding. Huck wants to leave but realises he must wait around in case Jim is still alive.
