The Poetic Genius of Thomas Hardy

on BBC Radio 3

Thomas Hardy , who died 50 years ago on 11 January 1928, is best known as the novelist of Wessex. But Michael Alex ander. Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Stir-ling, argues that Hardy's poetry, and particularly the Poems of 1912-13, is as great as any English poetry written since the Romantics. HUih Burden reads a selection of the poems, in which Hardy laments the death of his first wife. Emma Lavinia.
