A weekly programme about work in the world of science
Welding by J.G. Ball, Professor of Physical Metallurgy, Imperial College, London
Our own era is variously described as the plastics age, the atomic age, and so on. But there is a good case for thinking of it as the welded age. If we could not join things by welding our surroundings would be very different. There would be no new Forth Road Bridge and possibly no radio valves either. Professor Ball explains why.
