Way Out West - the Bristol Underground 10.00pm R2
Bristol wasn't known for a thriving music scene until ten years ago when Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead all emerged from the city with albums that have stood the test of time. This four-parter goes back to the roots of the Bristol scene to examine how a series of bands cooked up what became known as trip-hop from a varied list of ingredients that included reggae, jazz and hip-hop. This opener goes back to the 80s when the Pop Group and Pigbag were local heroes. (Geoff Ellis)
