Introduced live from the Royal Albert Hall in London by Sarah Walker. American conductor Robert Spano makes his Proms debut in Stravinsky's ballet score Petrushka, and the dance continues with Bernstein's racy urban high jinks and Gershwin's jazz Rhapsody, complete with free improvisation from Marcus Roberts and his Trio.

At the end of his life Leonard Bernstein considered his education work his crowning achievement as a musician. His hugely energetic Young People's Concerts were shown on primetime American television throughout the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and syndicated all over the world.
