with an appreciation of Otis Redding
' He was a rare talent: you could see him strut across the stage as he snarled " I can't turn you loose " or haunt you with a moving ballad like " That's how strong my love is ".
' As a live performer he was electrifying: the excitement of his performances comes through on albums.
' What he could do to a song was unreal, witness " Try a little tenderness " which he seems to take into another universe.
Unfortunately he was not fading out as a singer when he died: the record released after the crash, " Dock of the bay ", was his greatest pop hit. There would clearly have been a lot more of value to come but he died at the age of 23 having achieved incredible things'
