Programme for the under-fives
'Oh,' said a small boy one Monday when he heard another name announced, 'I thought it would have been Captaleen Edwards!' Well, today it is, for this week and next, Catherine Edwards introduces our stories and rhymes. The story on Wednesday and Thursday, told by Dorothy Smith in two parts, is about a fire engine. It was specially written by Jean Sutcliffe some time ago to meet a little girl's request, and it is called 'Christopher's Friend.' Now we have another request, this time from a small boy who wistfully writes, 'Please tell a story about a fire engine. I listen to your stories every day, but I would like a fire engine story.' Today and on Friday Julia Lang will tell 'The Newspaper House' by Emily Buxton, and 'The Water Baby,' by Ruth Ainsworth. Tomorrow comes Daphne Oxenford with Enid Rogers' tale of 'The Lost Boots.'
