Composer of the Week: Bliss

on BBC Radio 3

Bliss returned to London in the early 1930s. There he tried to exorcise the ghosts left by active service in the Battle of the Somme, where his brother Kennard was killed. Morning Heroes was written as a tribute to Kennard and other comrades who had fallen in the war.
