'IN DEFENCE OF GOSSIP'

on National Programme Daventry

View in Radio Times

W. H. Auden
Mr. Auden's name is chiefly associated with plays and poetry. Last month he had the honour of receiving the King's Gold Medal for poetry. Today he is broadcasting in prose on a subject which is, however, far from being prosaic. Gossips sometimes get a bad name, but Mr. Auden is going to stand up for them and for the commodity in which they deal.
