The British Academy Award-winning series of ten programmes
8: The Story of Roald Amundsen and his incredible journey to the South Pole in 1911 Written by IAN RODGER
Introduced and narrated by David Attenborough from the Royal Geographical Society, London Shock and disbelief rebounded through Britain at the news that Scott of the Antarctic had an unexpected rival. At the last moment Roald Amundsen , a tough and moody Norwegian, had decided to race the British expedition to the South Pole. For Scott the competition was to end in tragedy and death. It was Amundsen, single-minded to the point of obsession, who succeeded and lived.
The viewer could feel he was watching the real thing. (DAILY TELEGRAPH) An impressive record. (GUARDIAN) Superbly acted (EVENING NEWS) Director DAVID COBHAM
