Moving Targets. With the crumbling of the Soviet empire, the CIA has been left searching for a new role. Tonight's programme looks at its activities in Iran and Central
America as well as its controversial involvement in the Iran-Contra affair and asks what kind of organisation the intelligence recruits of tomorrow will be joining.
New CIA director Robert Gates , who gives his first British television interview, says: "The CIA and US intelligence must change or confront irrelevance and growing sentiment for their dismantlement." He feels confident that in today's unstable world the CIA is needed as much as ever before.
Others remain to be convinced.
