Taking Leave of God

on BBC Radio 3

In his recently published book, Don Cupitt. Dean and Chaplain of Emmanuel College. Cambridge, argues that man has reached a stage where he must part company with the idea of an objective God. and struggle to realise religious values in this life, here and now. He sees religious meaning as a private and subjective matter and the demand for spiritual autonomy as the logical right of self-government in all matters, even those of religion.
Professor David Jenkins of Leeds University takes up some of the issues raised with Don Cupitt.
The discussion is chaired by John Whale of The Sunday Times.
