Real Lives

on BBC One London

Victims and villains, leaders and led, the ordinary and the extraordinary. A series of filmed documentaries about the way people live now. 'A' Company
The men from 'A' Company were the first army unit to be deployed in Northern Ireland in 1969, when the bombings started. Now four of them, withtheircommanderDavidHancock, return to the Province. As they meet today's soldiers, they tell of the troubles as they saw them then, of ignorance, and bitterness:
'When we came here, I couldn't believe it wasn't one man one vote, I just didn't believe that when they said it.' Since then over 500 soldiers have been killed and nearly 4,000 have been injured in Ulster. Fifteen years on, what is life like for the British soldier caught in the middle, and what does he think as the bombings and killings continue today .. ?
