Harry Carpenter reports from Atlanta, USA, on the return to the ring of the undefeated former Heavyweight Champion of the World
In the early hours of this morning the most controversial and skilful heavyweight in the world took the first 'step in his come-back campaign after three years barred from the ring for draft evasion. This is the Cassius Clay record: 29 fights, 29 wins; undefeated after nine defences of the World title he won in 1964 from Sonny Liston. Clay last fought in March 1967 when he knocked out Zora Folley. This morning, against Jerry Quarry, the tough young heavyweight from California, Clay set out to prove that after three years he's still the 'greatest.'
