A comparison of the work of R. H. Tawney and Canon V. A. Demant by R. H. S. Crossman, M.P.
'Christianity and the Social Order' is the title of the last essay in The Attack, a collection of essays and papers by R. H. Tawney , published recently. R. H. S. Crossman discusses this essay in the course of a review of the Scott Holland lectures given some time ago by Canon V. A. Demant under the title 'Religion and the Decline of Capitalism.' Canon Demant's choice of title inevitably invites comparison with Tawney's earlier lectures 'Religion and the Rise of Capitalism.'
