Golf: The 1973 Open Championship

on BBC One London

Played over The Old Course, Troon.

From the year of its inception (1860) the British Open Championship was held for 12 consecutive years at Prestwick Golf Club, the near neighbour of Troon Golf Club. It was at Prestwick that the legendary Tom Morris Jr. of St Andrews first won the Championship thrice in succession (1868, 69, 70) - 103 years later the mercurial Mexican Lee Trevino goes for his hat-trick and the prestige of being only the fifth man in history to achieve this remarkable feat.
