Music for the Stage
From his youth when he played in a theatre orchestra, Beethoven was interested in writing for the stage. Although he intended to write several operas he only ever found one libretto that he thought suitable. This became Fidelio, from which you can hear Act II on Thursday. His other works included incidental music to several plays and two ballets.
