Irene Kohler (piano)
BBC Symphony Orchestra
(Leader, Paul Beard )
Conducted by Eugene Goossens
Part 1
Eugene Goossens wrote his Fantasy Concerto for Iturbi, who first played it at Cincinnati in 1944. Irene Kohler was the soloist when it was brought forward in this country, first in a broadcast and later at a Promenade Concert. The work, more particularly the slow movement, reflects to some extent the fantastic and sinister character of Edgar Allan Poe's story ' The Devil in the Belfry.' H.R.
