Tired of civilisation and armed with a smattering of advice on survival, ex-soldier Jeremiah Johnson sets off into the mountains to look for a different life. As winter sets in so does despair. But his luck changes when he comes across 'Bear Claw' - the personification of a mountain man.
As Jeremiah, Robert Redford has to fight Indians, rival trappers and the elements in this unusual mid-1800s adventure story set amid the magnificent mountain scenery of Utah.
