On the morning of Wednesday, 30 January 1889, Crown Prince Rudolf, son and heir to Franz Josef , All Highest Emperor of Austria-Hungary, died at his hunting lodge at Mayerling. It is imperative for the Habsburgs that the cause of his death and that of the young Baroness found beside him be concealed for ever.
