Gremlins of the Night
With big, appealing eyes and huge ears - they could be role models for those "gremlins" of the Hollywood movies - the forest-dwelling prosimian family, which include bushbabies, tarsiers, pottos and lorises, are among nature's most endearing characters.
This programme goes in search of these little-known creatures of the night, who can be identified by their distinctive calls and voices, and finds a new species of bushbaby in East
Africa. In Sulawesi, Indonesia, another new species of tarsier has been detected by a song never before heard. Members of the family have eyes that are bigger than their brains, butin their night time search for food both smell and hearing also play their part.
"The tropical forest at night is still one of the great undiscovered natural wonders," says producer Bernard Walton. "We are only beginning to shine a tiny light on this secret world. Narrated by David Attenborough.
