A divertissement in four parts in which Sir John ielgud. in conversation with John Miller , takes an international look over half a century of working on stage and screen. 1: British Thesp Makes Good!
' I remember most vividly the excitement of New York. I went to Harlem several times to see the Cotton Club and the dancing which was wonderful; and the elevated railway on Third Avenue, which was frightfully noisy; and Grand Central Station which had just been opened and had this wonderful roof - stars and globes and everything painted -very magnificent. And also I remember being struck by the spitting. Everybody spat in the streets and it was very windy weather; and everybody smoked those rather wet cigars, it was very unattractive.'
