Long John Baldry: in the Shadow of the Blues 9.00pm BBC4
Despite having a number-one single for 13 weeks in 1967 with the ballad Let the Heartaches Begin, Long John Baldry doesn't merit a place in the pop pantheon. Yet he was an influential figure and a sort of godfather to Britain's rhythm and blues boom. This documentary promises to explain how the 6ft 7in Baldry inspired the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton. It also tells how he discovered Rod Stewart playing the harmonica at a railway station, and a piano player who became Elton John. (Geoff Ellis)
