BBC Proms 99

on BBC Radio 3

Simon Rattle and the Vienna Philharmonic make their first appearance together at the Proms. What better than the glittering music of Ravel - that magician of the orchestra - to show off the partnership of a great world orchestra and an inspired conductor. The concert concludes with Beethoven's joyous celebration of the sounds and feelings of the countryside. Tonight's performance is also being broadcast on BBC2.
