John Cheever

on BBC Two England

The American novelist and short story writer John Cheever died last month. In 1977 Robert Robin son visited Cheever at his home near New York for The Book Programme.
They talked about his last major book Falconer, which was a brilliant comic account of a university professor's experiences in prison, as well as his other works. ' One doesn't write a novel saying this is about life and rebirth or about love and death. Novels are about men and women and children and dogs.'
