Bear Island Rescue

On 19 November, 1931, the trawler Howe was plunging through heavy seas on the fringe of the Arctic Circle. Just before dawn she struck a rock close to the base of the sheer cliffs of Bear Island. The chances of survival for the crew seemed remote.
