Ginastera's first experience of America was through a grant from the Guggenheim Foundation when, in 1945, he went to the States to observe music education. The visit, which lasted for nearly two years, gave Ginastera the opportunity to visit all the most influential music institutions, and he was able to hear performances of his music given by a number of orchestras, including the League of Composers.
